what is it all about?
As you can see from the graph, when hen happiness* is plotted against egg quality, there is a clear correlation. Did you know that all our ladies get free-reign of the countryside during the day, to explore and socialise with each other? It’s because of our happy flocks that we win so many awards! That’s the Cavanagh way.
*based on a recent survey completed by over 100 hens.
Sustainability
We’re always looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. That’s why we’re proud to supply the major supermarkets in NI, reducing global food miles since other eggs don’t have to catch a flight here. Our cartons are made from a minimum of 95% recycled board, which can then be recycled again, or why not re-purpose them? They make excellent seed planters, or you could even drop them down to your local primary school to use for crafts!
LED lighting is used in the hen houses and solar panels are installed for generating electricity.
A bit of History:
It all began with a vision for sustainable egg production in 2002. We got our first flock and set out to establish ‘the Cavanagh way’. From day one, our hens have all been free to roam the countryside (apart from when it gets to bedtime) and since then, we’ve been dedicated to creating the best possible environment for them. Our birds are fed seven times a day with a nutrient-rich feed and they have their own roosting spots and access to toys, like footballs!
We reckon our hens lay some of the best eggs in the world, and our customers agree!
With increased demand for our eggs, we have grown out of our packing facilities in County Fermangh and they are now packed by Thompsons’ of Armagh, who are BRC and BEIC Accredited and have been packing eggs for over 100 years, which gives us more time to focus on producing the delicious Cavanagh Eggs, with an increased production base, to keep up with demand.
We now have the honour of supplying our free range eggs to Northern Irish Tesco and Asda stores, as well as a number of Spar stores and Dunnes Stores, Enniskillen and Omagh and independent retailers. You’ll also find them in the Merchant Hotel, Lough Erne Golf Resort, and many other restaurants and coffee-shops across the island of Ireland.
